Beatles On iTunes. Really?????

Where were you when Nothing Happened today?

Unbelievable; Apple hyped an iTunes announcement targeting today for the past few days.

Beatles On iTunes. Really?????

Beatles On iTunes. Really?????

Everyone was hoping for ITunes in the Cloud.  But what do we get instead?

You can buy the Beatles Music Catalog on iTunes.  Yawn.

The Beatles simply aren’t relevant anymore.   So what if a few people who are living in the past want to download this music from iTunes.  It’s ridiculous.

Most likely these people will have bought these albums in all of the prior formats including:

  1. 45’s
  2. LP’s
  3. 8 Track
  4. Audio Cassette
  5. Laser Disk
  6. Mini Compact Disk
  7. Compact Disk or CDs

Now the last one is the kicker.

Why not just stick your Beatle Music CDs into the CD Rom slot in your Mac or PC and Import your Beatles Albums into iTunes.  Then you can sync to your iPod, iPad or iPhone.  Why spend more money to download this from iTunes.  It’s insane.

This is just being hyped because the only one who will really benefit is Apple.

They have had a long running intellectual property battle with the Beatles Related company of Apple Corps Ltd.  And being able to bring all of that to and end while potentially making even more money, is big news for Apple Inc.

It’s in Apple’s best interest to get the News Press excited with Hype like “Where were you when you heard…” that we were going to make more money today?

iOS 4.2 Beta 3 announced

iOS 4.2 Beta 3 announced

So I was pleasantly surprised to see an announcement in my developer email inbox for the release of iOS 4.2 Beta 3.

iOS 4.2 Beta 3 announced

iOS 4.2 Beta 3 announced

I started to download it instantly.

I’ve already installed iOS Beta 4.2 releases 1 and 2.  I was glad to have App. Folders and multitasking on my iPad.  The beta releases have worked fairly well.  The one glitch that I ran into was with the Netflix App.

It would select you movie and when you pressed “Watch Instantly” it would pause for a minute and “Crash Instantly”.  Sometimes restarting the iPad and selecting a new movie would fix it.  Sometimes not.  But again, this was with the iOS 4.2 Beta releases.

So hopefully they, Apple and Netflix are getting this useful diagnostic information that they require and Netflix will work great when the the final version of iOS 4.2 is released.

-Update-

One way to fix NetFlix App. crashes, is to uninstall the application.  Then, reinstall the application again.

You’ll have to reenter your credentials but that is a small price to pay to get NetFlix working on the iPad again.

Apple has created a dedicated page detailing the new features coming to the iPad in November.
iOS 4.2 will be a unifying release that brings the iPad, iPod and iPhone in feature sync.
The iPad will be much closer than it was, having lacked features such as Multitasking and Folders.
The iPad was originally launched with iOS 3.2 and has since fallen behind the iPhone and iPod touch’s iOS in features we’ve seen added in releases up to the current 4.02.
Along with folder organization and multi-tasking, iOS 4.2 for iPad also brings some  new features including:
- Printing: Print mail, photos, web pages, and more directly to a printer on a wireless network.
- AirPlay: Wirelessly streaming of videos, music, and photos from iPad to the newly announced Apple TV, and you can stream music to AirPlay speakers or receivers, including AirPort Express.
The iOS 4.2 release will be released for the iPad, iPhone and iPod touch in November of 2010 as an IPSW update through iTumes.

Apple Music Event announcements

At Apple’s September music event, the company announced iOS 4.1 for iPhone and iPod touch and also previewed iOS 4.2 for iPad.
iTunes 10 and Ping were announced.
Ping is a social network for iTunes users to replace the need for Google Buzz and Twitter in our lives.  It may also be a Pandora rival in that you can see music recommendations based on your listening and buying habits.
They announced the following hardware updates:
iPod Nano
iPod Touch
iPod Shuffle
Apple TV
iOS 4.1
All bugs have been fixed!
That includes the proximity sensor on the iPhone 4, Bluetooth bugs across the iPod touch and iPhone, and lastly the much talked about iPhone 3G performance issues have been fixed.
HDR
iOS 4.1  also provides a new feature called High Dynamic Range Photos (HDR).
HDR is a new camera-based feature where the device camera improves the colour range of the photos you take..
HD Video & Game Center
iOS 4.1 will give us HD video uploading over WiFi to YouTube for example and also the new Game Center.
Apple’s Game Center is like Microsoft’s Xbox Live where users can play multiplayer games and be matched against anyone of similar skill in a particular game.
Availability
iOS 4.1 is available for iPhone and iPod touch as a free download next week.
iOS 4.2
During this morning’s event Apple also provided a sneak peek of iOS 4.2!  There seems to be a trend there where the X.2 version is releaseed for the iPad.
iOS 4.2 is available for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad but the real focus is for iPad. Essentially, iOS 4.2 is bringing every single feature of iOS 4.1, such as folders and multitasking, to the iPad.
Printing
iOS 4.2 is also bringing wireless printing to the iPad in the form of Print Center. We’ll be able to view  print jobs, cancel them, and reprioritize them right from the iPad.
AirPlay
For all three iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad, iOS 4.2 is bringing a feature called AirPlay which is a renamed AirTunes feature but can now stream photos and videos along with audio to your AppleTV from any iOS device via WiFi.
Availability
iOS 4.2 is available for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad as a free download in November 2010.
The new iPods can be pre-ordered today and will ship next week.

Apple has been successful in producing iPads in sufficient volume so that you can now expect yours to ship in 24 hours if you were to order one online today.

There are also good levels of inventory at BestBuy and FutureShop stores as well as at your local Apple Store.  It would still be our recommendation that your buy the 64GB Wifi Only model if you already have an iPhone for this reason.

If Only We Had a Star Trek Time Travel Portal

DigiTimes has 2 pieces of news related to Apple’s iOS platform.

The first has to do with the iPhone coming to Verizon in January 2011.

The other reports that Apple may release a 7 inch iPad in 2011.

If Only We Had a Star Trek Time Travel Portal

If Only We Had a Star Trek Time Travel Portal

DigiTimes says that Apple will refresh the iPad in the first quarter of 2011.

The new model will include a processor based on ARM’s Cortex-A9 chip, This will provide a performance upgrade from the current Apple A4 chip that is based on the Cortex-A8 design.

The report also claims that the new iPad will have the same amount of RAM as the iPhone 4 which has 512 MB of RAM, up from the 256 MB in the current iPad.

According to the report, the iPad will be available in both the existing 9.7-inch screen size and a smaller 7-inch size.

The smaller version will have the same 1024 x 768 resolution of the current iPad, resulting in an increase in pixel density to 183 pixels per inch from 132 pixels per inch. While not offering the same high resolution as the iPhone 4′s Retina display at 326 ppi, content on the smaller iPad would seem sharper and clearer than on the 9.7 inch version.
More memory and a faster processor couple with a smaller form factor and possibly a smaller batter or one the same size could mean that the new iPad mini could have less battery life.

Also the main selling point for the original iPad is the greater size of the screen that allows viewing more of the Web or what ever else you are looking at with less eye strain.

It will be interesting to see what develops in the first quarter of 2011.

I love iJustine.com.

Here she is making fun of Ke$ha who I don’t like so much.

But there’s an iPad involved so it’s watchable and kind of funny.
